Arts Scholarships 2004/05 Open for Application

The Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) calls for local arts practitioners and undergraduates of arts-related courses to apply for the Arts Scholarships 2004/05 to further their studies abroad.

The Arts Scholarships Scheme consists of the HKADC Arts Scholarships and the HKADC-University of Leeds-Chevening Scholarships. The HKADC Arts Scholarships is funded by a private benefaction from the Croucher Hong Kong Charitable Trust. It provides subvention for successful applicants to enrol either in a one-year full-time study or a short term professional course in a tertiary institution or attachment to an approved arts-related institution in the United Kingdom.

The HKADC-University of Leeds-Chevening Scholarships is established by the Croucher Hong Kong Charitable Trust, the University of Leeds and the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Successful applicants are required to pursue an arts-related Master degree course at the University of Leeds such as MA Arts Education, MA Theatre Studies, MA Sculpture Studies and MA Music and Liturgy. Information on the above courses is available at the HKADC Administration Office and the website of the University of Leeds.

Successful applicants will receive stipend, subsidies towards air passage and tuition fees (if applicable). Applicants must be permanent residents of Hong Kong. Preference will be given to those who are either in arts profession, or students who are in the final year of their formal tertiary education in arts-related disciplines.

Since its inception in 1999, the Arts Scholarships Scheme have supported 19 arts practitioners/students to study in the United Kingdom. Scholarship recipients that are currently studying abroad are: Mr Lam Tung-pang studying MA Fine Arts in Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, and in the University of Leeds, Ms Chung Lai-kwan Michele, Ms Shek Ming-wai and Ms Ho Mei-fong Millais are studying MA Theatre Studies, MA Fine Art (Painting) and MA Feminism and the Visual Arts respectively.

Application forms are obtainable at the HKADC Administration Office, 22/F, 181 Queen's Road Central, Hong Kong, or can be downloaded from the HKADC website. Applications submitted in person should be dropped into the collection box at the above address by 6:30 p.m., Thursday, 6 May 2004. Applications submitted by post will only be accepted if postmarked no later than the deadline. Late submission or submission by fax or electronic mail will not be processed.
