The 2nd Fresh Wave Short Film Competition "Master Class"
October 14, 2006

To encourage and foster the professional development of filmmaking among aspiring young talents, the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (ADC) and the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFF) jointly organise the 2nd Fresh Wave Short Film Competition.

Following the kick-off ceremony on 22 September, four "Master Classes" will be held to enhance the professionalism of the shortlisted candidates in film direction and scriptwriting. The classes are conducted by renowned professionals from the industry Mr. Wong Ching, Mr. Shu Kei, Mr. Kam Kwok Leung and Mr. Tsui Hark (TBC), during which they will share their experiences and inspire participants' creativity and artistic styles in filmmaking. Participants can also acquire artistic and practical knowledge which will enhance the quality of their works.

Presiding at today's press conference, Mr. Johnnie To (Chairman of Film and Media Arts of ADC), Mr. Li Cheuk To (Artistic Director of HKIFF), Mr. Wong Ching and Mr. Shu Kei had a fruitful dialogue with the shortlisted candidates. Participants were also invited to share their views of the "Master Class".

During the first two sessions, Mr. Shu Kei explained the keys in making independent short films, while Mr. Wong Ching revealed the secrets of writing a good and impressive film script. The two remaining sessions will be held next Saturday (21 October) at TV Studio 3, Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. Mr. Kam Kwok Leung will discuss with the participants the narrative mode of two classic cinemas to be screened.

After finishing the "Master Class", the shortlisted candidates will start the scriptwriting and production of short films to be submitted early next year. Professional assistance will be available.  Selected works will be screened at the "31st Hong Kong International Film Festival".
