
The Hong Kong Arts Development Council (ADC) officially appoints Mr Louis Yu as the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
Mr Yu has over 18 years of experience on arts administration and management. In his early days, he has worked in Cultural Presentations Office of the former Urban Services Department, Highnoon Production Company and Prospects Theatre Company for a couple of years. In 1994, he joined the Hong Kong Arts Centre in 1994 as Performing Arts Manager. During the past 12 years in the Arts Centre, he has served for various positions such as Performing Arts Director and Programme Director. He was appointed Executive Director in 2000.
His devotion and passion to the arts has driven him to take an active role in promoting the broad development of art in Hong Kong. He is now members of the Performing Arts and Tourism Advisory Group of the Consultative Committee on the Core Arts & Cultural Facilities of the West Kowloon Cultural District, and the Venue Partnership Committee of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department as well as advisor of the Drama School of the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. He is used to be the ADC's arts advisor. In 2006, he received the Certification of Commendation from the Home Affairs Bureau as recognition of his contribution to the arts sector.
Starting from 2005, he has taken up a part-time teaching post in the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. He is now also a host of a radio programme.
Mr F K Ma, Chairman of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, welcomed Mr Yu's appointment as Chief Executive of the Council. "Mr Yu's wide-ranging arts administration experience and his strong network with the arts community are definitely valuable assets to the Council," he said.
The appointment of the Chief Executive has undergone an open and scrupulous recruitment process. A Selection Panel is set up to select the most suitable candidate for the job. Mr Yu's appointment is unanimously agreed by the full Council on the recommendation of the Selection Panel.
