The Hong Kong Arts Development Council (ADC) welcomes the new proposal on the future development of the West Kowloon Cultural District, in particular the inclusion of xiqu centre, concert hall and black box theatre in the core arts and cultural facilities which has largely addressed the needs of the arts community. Last year, the ADC had made a formal appeal to the advisory body on this issue.
In line with the pace of "hardware" development, the government should put more resources on developing the "software" to meet the future needs. It may include providing greater support and training opportunities to local arts and cultural groups, nurturing talents, promoting arts education and expanding the arts market.
During the consultation period, the ADC will continue to collect and reflect the views and opinions of the arts communtiy to the government. The ADC urges for early implementation of the project, with an aim to foster the development of art and culture in Hong Kong.
